The Aitken Bible
The First Bible published in America
in 1782
See an ORIGINAL Aitken Bible, published nearly 250 years ago, on display in the Florida State Capitol in Tallahassee.
The Aitken Bible is a King James Version of the Bible that is historically significant. Historians call it “The Bible of the American Revolution.” Published in 1782 by Philadelphia printer Robert Aitken, this book claims three notable titles: 1) the only Bible approved by the United States Congress, 2) the only Bible recommended to Americans by our Founders, and subsequently, 3) the first English Bible printed and bound in America (as recorded in the Journals of Congress, September 12, 1782).
The First American Bible is one of the most important artifacts in American history. When the American Revolution began, America stopped trade with Britain. Among the many products we stopped receiving from Britain were Bibles. So, as the first printer for the Journals of Congress, Robert Aitken sought to print the First American Bible. The first King James Bible made in America. The first English Bible made for schools. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see this original Bible, produced at the very foundation of our nation. When our current elected leaders hold in their hands the Bible approved by our original elected leaders, then they will understand that, far from a Separation of Church and State, our original elected leaders believed in Godly influence on Government.

In conjunction with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the display of an original Aitken Bible, the First American Bible Foundation will provide a top quality replica of the Aitken Bible to every Florida State Legislator, five top Executive officials, and the seven Florida Supreme Court Justices. Each leather bound Bible will be embossed with the individual’s name, making it a unique memorial of our Nation’s Biblical foundation.
Having a piece of American History as a permanent reminder of the Biblical origin of our Nation, each government official should be reminded of the significance of Biblical principles, extending from the founding of our Nation through today. Even after leaving office, this Bible will be a reminder, both to that individual, and to visitors who see it in the future, helping to preserve an important piece of the philosophy that underpins our Republic.
The First American Bible Foundation has distributed high quality, leather bound, individually embossed copies of the Aitken Bible to Legislators in ten states.
